Often referred to as a pellet drum, the "Bolang Gu" 拨浪鼓 is a traditional Chinese percussion instrument. Traditionally, the larger version of this instrument was used in religious ceremonies (Tibet, Mongolia, India, Taiwan) but the smaller version became popular amongst children as it makes quite an entertaining noisemaker!
