Gwenessa Lam Artist Talk
Artist Gwenessa Lam will be in attendance to talk about her artwork and the process which led to The Articulate Object exhibition on February 24th from 2 pm - 3 pm.
The Articulate Object runs from January 10th - April 7th at the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden, in our Hall of One Hundred Rivers.
Gwenessa Lam's work draws from historical objects and domestic spaces, as contested sites of collective memory. Our personal as well as shared memories are frequently associated with key images, objects, and locations. She is interested in understanding the psychological and social implications when these artifacts are lost to disaster, censorship, or misidentification. The content of her paintings and drawings are culled from public documentation of private spaces and artifacts and are often brought to light by a catastrophe, error, or chance. They depict singular objects in various states of erasure or repair.
The Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese is honoured to be presenting this body of work from Gwenessa and believes that this work highlights many histories, identities and cultures that are being discovered, questioned and re-examined. We are excited that the garden can be part of this dialogue.
We look forward to seeing you there!
